Wagholi, September 11, 2020: A day ahead of the five-days ‘Janta Curfew’ planned by the Wagholi Gram Panchayat, District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh said that there is no such order issued by him. Pune Zilla Parishad CEO Ayush Prasad clarified that there is no order but its an appeal by the Wagholi Gram Panchayat to the local residents.

“The appeal has been made to break the chain of Coronavirus spread as many people travel to Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, MIDC areas for work. Therefore, it was appealed to voluntarily restrict travel. As far as possible, people should stay at home. However, people who have work can travel. There cannot be complete lockdown. But there will be strict action if anybody is found without a mask, spitting on the roads and not following the COVID preventive guidelines”, Prasad said.

People Oppose To Janta Curfew

Meanwhile, there is a massive opposition against the proposed ‘voluntary curfew’ from September 12 to 17. Many people expressed their angst on social media and shared #BoycottJantaCurfew on Twitter. People are also expressing their views on WhatsApp and Telegram groups.

“There is no point in making poor people sleep without food again. This is cruel. Pls help”, tweeted Babli Patel, while tagging Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Chirag Barjatya tweeted, “In wagholi, Pune, they are implementing janta curfew going against the guidelines of unlock 4. And if this is voluntary, why the fines has been imposed?”

Gram Panchayat Claims To Have People’s Support

Anil Kumbhar, Gram Sevak, told Punekar News that they have the support of the people hence this Janta Curfew will be imposed. “We are doing this to break the chain of Coronavirus spread. As people are travelling to many areas therefore we have sought to impose restrictions on travelling. However, travel for essential work is allowed like students having exams, people who have already booked tickets to go out of Wagholi, medical emergency etc. We will take strict actions against shopkeepers if they will open the shops.”

The number of Coronavirus positive cases has reached about 1,000 in Wagholi. Therefore, an emergency meeting was held on Wednesday.
