On the outskirts of Osade and Sonapur villages, a private land owner had built a protective wall on the hill slope parallel to the main road. Locals said that soil has been filled inside it. Due to the heavy rain in the area, it is estimated that the wall might have collapsed due to the swelling of the soil. The remains of the wall, mud, and soil have all fallen on the main road and the traffic has come to a halt.

As it is Saturday, many tourists stuck in traffic who came to the area to experience monsoon tourism. The Public Works Department has started the work of removing the residues from the road. Locals, however, are alleging that such incidents are happening due to illegal mining and construction and that the administration is deliberately ignoring such illegalities.

A bridge collapsed a few days ago near the place where the crack collapsed. The Public Works Department has temporarily repaired the bridge which is in a very dangerous condition, but the danger remains as the rain continues. A JCB machine has been kept at the bridge site day and night for emergency relief and rescue operations.

Lahu Niwangune, a Citizen of Ambi informed that “Many people have bought and excavated sites on the hills along the road. This is the result is such activities and why is the administration not taking action against such people? There is danger due to the excavation and construction along the entire road.”

“A JCB machine is stationed in the same area for emergency rescue operations. Therefore, the work of removing stones and soil from the road started immediately. Road traffic will resume soon. At first glance, it appears that the protective wall on the hillside along the road has collapsed. If anyone has done excavations and dangerous constructions on the side of the road, they will be surveyed and legal action will be taken against them,” said Ajay Bhosle, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (South).
