Watching the FIFA World Cup Final? Maharashtra Govt Permits Hotels and Eateries to Remain Open Till 4 a.m.
Mumbai, 19th July 2026: The Maharashtra government has permitted eateries, hotels, and restaurants across the state to remain open until 4 a.m. on Monday, July 20, to facilitate public viewing of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final, according to an order issued by the state Home Department on Sunday.
The relaxation was granted following a request from the Mumbai chapter of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI). The order has been circulated to the Director General of Police, Maharashtra, as well as all district collectors and police commissioners for implementation.
The extended operating hours have been authorised under the relevant provisions of Section 33 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
According to the order, owners of hotels, restaurants, and eateries must deploy an adequate number of security personnel both inside and outside their establishments. They are also required to ensure that no incident affecting public safety, law and order, or peace takes place during the extended hours.
The order further states that establishment owners will be held fully responsible for any illegal activity occurring within or around their premises and may face legal action in the event of any violations.
The relaxation applies only to establishments operating in enclosed premises or buildings. Compliance with existing noise pollution regulations remains mandatory, and sound systems must be used strictly in accordance with directions issued by the Supreme Court and the High Courts.
Local police authorities have been empowered to revoke the relaxation, if required, in the interest of maintaining public peace, safety, and law and order.
The state government has also directed officials to immediately inform all eligible establishments about the temporary extension of operating hours.
