Pune, 25th January 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received test results confirming that water from storage tanks in areas affected by the Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) outbreak is safe for consumption, providing relief to concerned citizens.

The PMC conducted water quality tests in response to the rising number of GBS cases in the Sinhagad Road area. Samples from water tanks in Kirkatwadi, Nandoshi, Dhayreshwar, Samarth Mandir, and Sanaswadi were found to be potable and free from harmful bacteria.

Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. stated that the water samples were tested at the state public health laboratory for coliform, thermotolerant bacteria, and E. coli. All three bacterial counts were found to be zero, indicating that the water is safe for drinking.

This development comes as a relief to residents in these areas, where concerns about water quality have been growing due to the increase in GBS cases. The PMC had previously inspected water sources in the region and ordered preventive measures.

The water quality tests were part of a broader investigation into the GBS outbreak. Authorities collected 100 ml samples from each of the tested locations to ensure a comprehensive analysis.

While the water supply has been declared safe, the PMC continues to monitor the situation closely and investigate other potential causes of the GBS outbreak. Health officials are urging residents to maintain good hygiene practices and report any unusual symptoms promptly.

The GBS outbreak has affected several areas along Sinhagad Road, with the number of cases rising in recent days. The PMC and health authorities are working together to contain the spread and provide treatment to those affected.
