We must implement ideas and act firmly for the development of Maharashtra- Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar
Pune, September 28, 2019: “For the progress of Maharashtra, we need to accelerate sustainable inclusive growth in domains including Agriculture, Higher Education, Healthcare, Cultural Heritage and Environment. We need to create an extra space for the advancement of the state by countering various challenges through formation and execution of ideas and designs. We have to act decisively,” said Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, President, Pune International Centre (PIC).
Dr. Mashelkar was speaking at a program on the release of the report- ‘Progressive Maharashtra: Policy Road Map 2019-2024’ organized by the PIC today at Finolex Board Room, ICC Trade Tower, A Wing, MCCIA,Senpati Bapat Road, Pune in presence of Dr. Vijay Kelkar, Vice-President, PIC and Prashant Girbane, Honorary Director, PIC, Vandana Chavan, MP, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Mukta Tilak, Mayor, Pune, Prashant Jagtap, Former Mayor of Pune, Nilesh Nikam, Former Standing Committee Chairman, NCP and Vinita Tatke.
Several authors who had contributed to the report including Prof. Amitav Mallik, Anil Supanekar, Dr. Chandrahas Deshpande, D.B. Modak, Dr. Aravind Chinchure among others were also present at the conference.
Mashelkar added, “India’s overall development is not possible without Maharashtra’s and to sustain the economic prosperity of Maharashtra we need a stable and dynamic institutional framework. We have to work toward decentralization, democratization, de-carbonization and digitalization in the state.”
The report- ‘Progressive Maharashtra’ published by the PIC aims to serve as a policy idea bank or the manifestos of the political parties for the forthcoming 2019 state assembly elections. These policy proposals including promoting effective governance, reforming state laws, accelerating agricultural growth, reforms in education and industry 4.0 and agenda for climate change among others have been contributed by experts of their respective fields and deals with the important issues faced by the state of Maharashtra.
Speaking on the report, Vandana Chavan said, “The implementation of sustainable development goals is essential and there are various issues in the state like poverty, water scarcity, education, urbanization, climate change, illegal constructions and women empowerment among others we need to work upon. It’s the job of all political parties and leaders and we all have to work together to counter these issues and continue exchanging dialogues on such forums.”
