Pune, 6th February 2024: Residents of Pune experienced a notable rise in minimum temperatures on Monday, with the mercury reaching 16.2°C in Shivajinagar, 18.8°C in Lohegaon, 21.6°C in Lavale, 21.5°C in Magarpatta, 15.5°C in NDA, and 20.2°C in Chinchwad. However, there’s a glimmer of relief on the horizon for winter enthusiasts as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates a slight dip in minimum temperatures.

Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the weather forecasting division at IMD, Pune, attributed the expected temperature drop to a recently passed western disturbance (WD). He explained, “Minimums may decrease by 3-4°C in Pune until Feb 8, reaching 11-12°C in Shivajinagar, 14°C in Lohegaon, and 10-11°C in NDA. The possibility of single-digit temperatures cannot be ruled out during this phase. The drop will be facilitated by clear skies and dry weather.”

Kashyapi highlighted that Monday’s rise in minimums was due to the movement of the WD and its associated systems. He stated, “As the system and its induced system were in motion, 3-4 octa clouds were intermittently present in Pune. By Tuesday morning, all clouds will clear, and northerly winds will commence.”
