Mumbai, 25th November 2024: Whatsapp will introduce a new feature that allows users to generate voice message transcripts. It aims at enhancing convenience for users on the instant messaging platform.

Voice messages connect us with friends and family and are seen by people in areas where personal touch is much required but in such situations, as with meetings, noisy environments, and helping the user with hearing disabilities it can be challenging.

The new feature allows converting voice messages into text where users read their messages instead of listening to them. The feature will launch globally in the coming weeks. It will be available initially in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian languages, with an intention to include additional languages soon. According to WhatsApp, transcripts are created directly on the device of the user so that nobody could hear or read what’s being said. No one, not even WhatsApp, can hear or read the personal messages.

Activating this feature

Step 1: Go to Whatsapp settings.

Step 2: Settings > Chats > Voice message transcripts

Step 3: You can turn off transcriptions here

Step 4: After long pressing a message, tap on transcribe.

Step 5: You’ll see the transcript on your screen

“We’re excited to build on this experience and make it even better and more seamless,” WhatsApp said in a statement.” The feature would help to simplify communication, especially when revisiting long voice messages or catching up with conversations when they are busy.

More recently, WhatsApp has added the ‘Message Drafts’ feature that solves the problem of unsent messages. Chats with unfinished drafts are clearly marked and moved to the top of the list so users can locate and complete them with ease.

The Meta-owned company is still innovating, bringing updates like voice message transcripts and message drafts and providing seamless communication for its over two billion global users.
