WhatsApp Outage Disrupts Messaging Services Globally; Users Turn to Social Media to Vent
Pune, 12th April 2025: The popular messaging app WhatsApp experienced a sudden outage on Saturday evening, leaving millions of users across the globe unable to send or receive messages.
The disruption began in the afternoon and intensified by evening, with users in India, the United States, Mexico, and several other countries reporting issues. Complaints ranged from messages not being delivered to problems uploading statuses.
As the glitch persisted, frustrated users turned to other platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) to express their concerns and share screenshots showing undelivered messages and connection errors. The hashtag #WhatsAppDown began trending on X within hours of the outage.
According to media reports, the issue appears to be linked to a technical glitch within Meta’s infrastructure, though no official confirmation has been provided by the company. As of late Saturday, WhatsApp had not released any public statement addressing the cause of the disruption or when normal service is expected to resume.
This is not the first time Meta’s services have experienced widespread outages. In the past, similar incidents have disrupted WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram simultaneously, highlighting the heavy global reliance on Meta-owned platforms for everyday communication.
