WhatsApp Testing a New Feature for Status Updates — Here’s How It Works
New Delhi, 15th October 2025: WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature for Android that notifies users whenever their favorite contacts post new status updates. The feature can be enabled directly from the status screen and sends real-time alerts each time a chosen contact uploads a new status, making the experience more personal and interactive.
According to feature tracker WABetaInfo, this functionality is being rolled out through the WhatsApp Beta 2.25.30.4 update for Android. The rollout is gradual, allowing WhatsApp to monitor its performance and stability before a wider release.
How the WhatsApp Status Notification Feature Works
To activate the feature, users can open a contact’s status, tap the overflow menu, and select ‘Get notifications.’ Once confirmed, WhatsApp will send an instant alert whenever that contact posts a new status.
If users wish to stop receiving alerts, they can mute notifications anytime using the same menu. When a followed contact uploads a new status, WhatsApp sends a notification displaying the contact’s name — and if the update includes a photo or video, a small preview will appear within the alert.
Privacy and Personalization
WhatsApp has ensured that contacts will not be notified if someone enables status alerts for them, maintaining user privacy. The feature focuses on giving users more control and customization over whose updates they wish to follow, enhancing overall engagement without compromising privacy.
This new feature is part of WhatsApp’s broader effort to make the app more personalized and user-centric, improving how users stay connected with their close contacts.
