Who Is Manjusha Nagpure? Pune’s New Mayor with RSS Roots and Three-Time Corporator
Pune, 9th February 2026: After securing single-party control for a second consecutive term in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the Bharatiya Janata Party has elected senior corporator Manjusha Nagpure as the city’s new Mayor. She was elected unopposed. She is a corporator from Ward No. 35, the Sinhagad Road–Suncity–Manikbaug constituency.
Nagpure, who has won municipal elections for the third consecutive time, is a committed worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). She was first elected as a corporator in the 2012 civic elections from the Anandnagar area on Sinhagad Road. Until now, the Sinhagad Road area had never produced a Mayor, making her election a first for the locality.
Aged 46, Nagpure holds a postgraduate degree in Business Management (MBA). She comes from a family with a strong RSS background and has also worked as a sevika with the Rashtra Sevika Samiti. Born in 1979, she is among the more highly educated corporators in the PMC and is known for her strong ideological alignment with Hindutva.
Her husband, Deepak Nagpure, is a BJP office-bearer and an active Hindutva leader. Manjusha Nagpure completed her graduation from Savitribai Phule Pune University in 1999 and later earned her MBA from ICFAI University in 2021. She earlier worked in the Information Technology sector before entering local body politics at the encouragement of her family.
The Nagpure family is engaged in business activities, with a significant portion of their income coming from rentals of commercial properties. Their total declared family assets are valued at approximately ₹3.22 crore. They own a two-wheeler but do not possess a four-wheeler. The couple has two children, aged 17 and five.
During her election campaign, Nagpure promised to improve traffic signal systems, widen roads, ease congestion, and strengthen PMPML bus services. As Sinhagad Road is a flood-prone area, she has proposed constructing protective walls along the Mutha riverbanks and installing a flood alert system to provide timely warnings to residents.
She also plans to speed up river improvement and beautification projects undertaken by the PMC. On the public health front, she has committed to implementing the “Clean Ward, Beautiful Ward” concept to tackle open garbage dumping. She has also stressed the need to upgrade municipal hospitals and introduce digital education in civic schools.
So far, Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has served on the District Planning Committee, Standing Committee, Law Committee, Audit Committee, City Improvement Committee, and the Women and Child Welfare Committee. Since 2024, she has also been serving as Vice President of the BJP’s Pune City unit.
