Britain, 25th October 2022: Rishi Sunak has created history by becoming the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of Britain. Former prime ministers Boris Johnson and Penny Mordent could not muster the support of the 100 lawmakers needed to run for election. He took oath as a Member of Parliament from Yorkshire, taking the Bhagavad Gita as a witness in Parliament. He was the first UK MP to do so.

 

Rishi Sunak’s parents are both of Indian origin. Sunak’s parents are pharmacists. He moved to Britain from East Africa in the 1960s. Sunak’s father, Yashveer Sunak, was a doctor. His mother, Usha Sunak, used to run a chemist’s shop. Rishi Sunak is married to Akshata Murthy, daughter of Infosys chief Narayan Murthy. They have two daughters named Krishna and Anushka.
