Widow and Daughter Saved from Homelessness After Timely Action by Protection Officer in Pune

Maval, 23rd June 2025: In a swift and decisive response following directions from the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission, a widowed woman and her minor daughter were granted urgent relief from potential homelessness, thanks to the immediate intervention of Protection Officer Praveen Neharkar in Vadgaon Maval.
The State Women’s Commission had flagged the case as sensitive and handed it over to the protection officer on Friday. The complaint, routed through the office of the District Women and Child Development Officer, Pune, revealed that the woman and her daughter were at risk of being evicted from their home following an order issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Maval-Mulshi. The woman had lost her husband in 2023, leaving her in a vulnerable financial and emotional situation.
Recognising the urgency of the matter, Neharkar quickly prepared the Domestic Incident Report (DIR) and submitted it to the Vadgaon Maval court by Tuesday, June 17. Despite the absence of legal counsel, Neharkar personally represented the case and ensured that the court was made fully aware of the gravity of the situation.
“The court responded swiftly by issuing an interim residence order the same day, valid until 6 pm, which brought immediate relief to the victim,” said Neharkar in a press release.
Further strengthening the legal battle for the woman, the Protection Officer also facilitated the appointment of a legal aid lawyer through the Legal Services Authority the very next day. The court not only granted interim relief but also promptly scheduled the next hearing to avoid delays in justice delivery.
