Pune, June 10, 2020: After several housing societies in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad began issuing internal guidelines regarding domestic maids and others providing various services, Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram said that action will be taken against such housing societies if complaints are received from the members. He said that state government has already issued guidelines and the housing societies cannot override them.

Ram said that housing society members can complain with the Pune municipal corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), district collector office or with the local authorities. He said that action will be taken against the erring housing societies for an offence under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act.

As per the Maharashtra state government and municipal corporation guidelines, a house owner can allow the domestic maid (from the non-containment zone) to come for work following safety measures like wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer. However, many housing societies are not allowing entry to domestic maids, milkmen, LPG cylinder delivery persons etc in the name of precautionary measures against spread of Coronavirus COVID19.
