Pune, 10th September 2021: A woman disguised as a nurse kidnapped a three-month-old girl child from the state government-run Sassoon Hospital. However, within an hour, an autorickshaw driver helped to track down the woman and the child was released from her custody.

An FIR has been registered at Bundgarden police station against the 24-year-old accused woman, a native of Nanded district, who resides in Kharadi. Police said that she has not had a child for many years, hence planned the kidnapping.

According to police, the incident took place around 12.30 pm on Thursday in ward 74 where case paper is made. A 22-year-old woman from Kasewadi had gone to the Sassoon Hospital for the sonography of her four-year-old daughter. She had also taken her three-month girl child. She had handed over her infant girl to her mother-in-law and asked her to wait, meanwhile, she was taking her elder daughter to see a doctor on the upper floor.

However, as she was not feeling well, her mother-in-law handed over the infant girl to a woman relative, whose husband is admitted to the hospital, and accompanied her to the upper floor. After some time, she came back to take back the mask of her daughter but found her relative woman and infant daughter missing.

A security guard checked the CCTV camera and told her that a ‘nurse’, a woman wearing a white dress, had taken her child. Meanwhile, the relative woman was also found. She informed that as she was going to check her husband in the ICU ward after being called by the doctor, a ‘nurse’ asked her to hand over the child to her and she gave away the girl to her.

They rushed to the main gate and during enquiry autorickshaw driver Atul Gaikwad informed them about a ‘nurse’ with infant hiring his friend Pravin Sakat’s autorickshaw some time back. After being told about the reality, Gaikwad called Sakat on phone and informed him about the kidnapping. After getting the location, Gaikwad ferried the complainant to Thitevasti in Kharadi where the accused woman and infant child were found.

The accused woman was brought to Bundgarden police station where a case of kidnapping and impersonating public servant was registered. She told police that she had ‘taken away’ the infant girl as she was not having a child for many years.

Assistant Police Inspector Savita Sapkale is further investigating the case.
