Woman Kidnapped and Raped in Forced Conversion Attempt in Pune

Pune, January 24, 2025 – Three individuals, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping, raping, and attempting to forcibly convert a 32-year-old woman in Pune. The Airport Police Station has registered a case following a complaint filed by the victim.

According to police reports, the accused, identified as Santosh Ramdas Gaikwad (55), Sagar Madhukar Landge (30), and an unnamed woman, lured the victim to the Dhanori area under the pretext of religious conversion. The victim, who was acquainted with the accused, was then confined in a house belonging to the female suspect.

The accused allegedly threatened the victim with a pistol and raped her. They recorded the assault on a mobile phone, threatening to release the footage on social media. Sagar Landge later moved the victim to a room in the Lohgaon area, where she was repeatedly assaulted.

Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Dhamane is leading the investigation. The suspects have been charged with rape and illegal possession of weapons. They were arrested shortly after the victim filed her complaint, detailing the traumatic ordeal she endured.

This case highlights the ongoing issues of forced religious conversions and violence against women in the region. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to such crimes.

The investigation is currently ongoing, with police gathering additional evidence and statements to build a comprehensive case against the accused.
