Elderly Beggar Murdered in Camp Area of Pune

Camp, 24th January 2025 – A 60-year-old unidentified beggar was found dead in the Camp area of Pune early yesterday morning, the victim of a brutal assault. The Bund Garden Police have registered a case against one suspect in connection with the murder.
According to Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Mohite, who filed the complaint at Bund Garden Police Station, the incident occurred on the footpath in front of Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hall, where beggars often sleep at night. A dispute reportedly broke out between the victim and another beggar in the early hours of yesterday, escalating into a violent altercation.
The assailant allegedly beat the victim severely with kicks and punches, leaving him critically injured. The elderly beggar’s body was discovered on the footpath later that morning.
Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad visited the crime scene to oversee the initial investigation. Police Sub-Inspector Dhiraj Gupta is leading the ongoing search for the suspect, who fled after the assault.
Authorities are working to identify the deceased beggar and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.
