Wakad, 22nd June 2024: The Wakad Police have registered a case following the viral spread of CCTV footage showing a woman being kidnapped by her husband. The incident, which took place in front of the Ashish Janwar Real Estate Office on Wednesday (19th June), has sparked widespread attention on social media. The case was formally registered with Wakad Police on Friday (21st June) night.

The 27-year-old woman, a resident of Wakad and a native of Ambegaon, lodged a complaint at the Wakad Police Station. The police have registered a case against three individuals: her husband Sumit Shahane, her mother-in-law, and her husband’s colleague Vikrant, whose full name and details are not yet known. The case has been registered under IPC Sections 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person), 328 (Causing hurt using poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

According to police reports, while the complainant was at her office, her husband Sumit, his relative Vikrant, and her mother-in-law arrived and engaged in an argument with her. The complainant and her husband were separated and on the verge of divorce due to ongoing marital disputes. Although the husband had previously attempted to reconcile and the complainant had agreed, the situation remained unchanged, leading her to leave him permanently. The arguments were reportedly related to sexual relations between the couple.

When the husband tried to reconcile again, the complainant refused. Enraged, Sumit, along with his mother and Vikrant, forcefully kidnapped her, sedated her, and took her to Ambegaon and subsequently to Manchar, where the husband reportedly lives. She was beaten, her phone was confiscated, and she was sedated repeatedly. Pretending to reconcile with him, she escaped when she got the opportunity and reported the incident to Wakad Police Station. Police Sub-Inspector NM Suryawanshi from Wakad Police Station is investigating the matter further.
