Women Share List Of Unsafe Spots With Pune Police Through ‘My safe Pune’ App

Pune, 20th January 2022: With the launch of the ‘My Safe Pune’ app by Pune police, 176 women and girls from different regions of the city stepped forward with a list of over 100 unsafe spots such as illegal auto-rickshaw stands, bridges, half-constructed establishments and abandoned old buildings. Pune police have received over 300 calls and messages from citizens of various parts of the city.

In response, the police have taken notes of the suggestions given to them and added those places to the list which requires more patrolling. The women were notified about the situation of the spot shared by them through a screenshot. The main objective of introducing this app was to bring transparency to the patrolling duty of beat marshals. It also aims to help police ramp up their security and patrolling of specific locations that citizens point to using their location. Following the aftermath of a minor being abducted and gang-raped in the city recently, the police have introduced various initiatives to ensure women’s safety, and the mobile app will enable them to report any misconduct instantly.

Pune police commissioner Amitabh Gupta said that there was a huge response from the Wagholi area. The college students, as well as women working in the IT sector, have suggested a few spots where they seek more patrolling. We have added around 100 new spots where the beat marshals will be present round the clock.

The app shares the locations, time of arrival and the number of rounds made by the beat marshals for patrolling to the police stations. The police aim to deliver a rapid response to people during an incident of crime. The awareness drive was done by police through their Twitter handle by sharing images and screenshots of the locations which were added recently for patrolling.
