Women’s Day: Sushma Chavan Appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police, Swargate Division

Pune, March 8, 2021: 8 March is celebrated as International Women’s day all over the world. On this day, women are appreciated for the duties they perform at all levels. Women are performing their duties competently in all fields including the police department.

On this occasion, Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta today appointed Sushma Chavan to the post of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Swargate Division, taking into account her professional approach to police service.

This appointment has doubled the confidence of women police officers by giving them key responsibilities. The Commissioner of Police has conveyed the message of women empowerment through this appointment.

In 1987, Chavan joined the police department as a Police Sub-Inspector after clearing Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exam. Since then, she has served in Pune, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Maharashtra Intelligence Academy and Anti-Corruption Bureau.

She has held various posts in Vishrambag, Faraskhana, Kothrud, Deccan, Bhosari police stations, Crime Branch and Traffic Branch in Pune city police. She has also served as Senior Police Inspector, in-charge of Lashkar police station.

ACP Sushma Chavan has been honoured by Director-General of Police insignia in 2007 as well as awarded with the President’s Medal for her meritorious service in 2010 and President Police Medal for outstanding service in 2020. She has so far received 475 awards in her service.
