The Satara-Pune highway’s hazardous “S” curve will no longer exist thanks to the new tunnel. It will lower the chances of accidents. The location has historically been a dangerous section where most accidents occur. The 6.43 km long tunnel project, which would create a straight route, will cost a total of about 926 crore rupees. The construction includes two tunnels with three lanes each.

According to Nitin Gadkari, the tunnel would improve connectivity and, more crucially, directly benefit commuters by saving them money and time.

According to him, the average travel times between Satara and Pune through Khambataki Ghat are 45 and 10 to 15 minutes, respectively. Once this tunnel is finished, the average travel time will drop to 5–10 minutes.
