Shivajinagar, 4th April 2024: A traffic constable sustained serious injuries, including a fractured leg and injuries to his hands, after being struck by a hatchback car traveling in the wrong direction on Senapati Bapat Road, from Model Colony to the Ganeshkhind Road junction, around 7:15 p.m. on March 20 in Pune.

The driver, a woman, fled the scene following the incident, leaving the constable, identified as Ravindra Nigde (52), injured. Nigde, upon being discharged from the hospital, filed a complaint with the Chatushrungi police on Tuesday.

According to Senior Police Inspector Ajay Kulkarni, preliminary investigations indicate that the woman entered Senapati Bapat Road via the Pankuwar Firodia lane. However, instead of making a left turn as required, she proceeded to turn right, driving against the flow of traffic until reaching the opening near the MSEB office, located in front of the Chatushrungi temple. At the time of the collision, Nigde was stationed at a corner of the opening near the MSEB office, overseeing traffic on Senapati Bapat Road while facing the Ganeshkhind Road junction.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered, and authorities are in the process of summoning the woman for further investigation.
