11 December 2023: Yamaha Mobility is making significant strides in its market segment within India, offering a diverse range of products. Notably, Yamaha’s R15 V4 and MT 15 V2 are not the only offerings, as the lineup also includes sports bikes like the Yamaha R15S and cruiser motorcycles like the Yamaha FZS Fi V4. Currently, Yamaha is gearing up to introduce a new addition to its lineup—the MT-03, anticipated to hit the Indian market in December 2023. This motorcycle promises a stylish appearance, modern features, and a powerful new engine, possibly drawing inspiration from Yamaha’s YZF-R3 design.

The MT-03 is expected to showcase a distinctive style, combining streetfighter aesthetics with elements borrowed from its fully-faired sibling. Features such as a projector-style headlight with LED DRLs, a muscular fuel tank, split-style seat, and a side-slung exhaust contribute to its overall allure. Yamaha aims to enhance the riding experience with a fully digital instrument cluster that includes standard readouts like speedometer, tachometer, and various indicators. Additionally, modern features such as call alerts, SMS alerts, email notifications, and a smart assist navigation system with smartphone and Bluetooth connectivity are likely to be incorporated.

Under the hood, the Yamaha MT-03 is projected to house a 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor, capable of producing 42bhp of power and 29.6nm of peak torque. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed gearbox, and riders may benefit from a slip and assist clutch for improved control. The suspension system comprises upside-down telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock, while braking duties are expected to be handled by a single disc brake at both ends. Safety features, including an anti-lock braking system, traction control system, and dual-channel ABS, are likely to be integrated.

Although the official launch date for the Yamaha MT-03 is yet to be announced, sources suggest a potential release in India in December 2023. The expected ex-showroom price is estimated to fall within the range of Rs 3.50 lakh to Rs 4 lakh, positioning the MT-03 as a contender against the KTM 390 Duke in the Indian market.
