Yerwada Central Jail: 100 Prisoners Found COVID Positive Despite Jail Being Under Strict Lockdown

Pune, September 1, 2020: The Yerwada jail has been under strict lockdown from April 9 till July 15 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the facility being under strict lockdown, 50 inmates from the main prison area have tested positive for the virus.

Another 50 inmates from the temporary jail outside the main area have also tested COVID-19 positive. This takes the total count to 100 people getting affected by the virus.

Two prison inmates have so far succumbed to the virus while 11 staffers from the Yerwada prison including a senior officer are undergoing treatment.

Now every new prisoner has to undergo rapid antigen test before allowed entry in Yerwada jail.
