Yogita Bhosale Becomes Pune’s First Full-Time Woman Municipal Secretary

Pune, 17th January 2025: Yogita Bhosale has been promoted to the prestigious position of Municipal Secretary, filling a vacancy that had remained open for four years. With this promotion, Bhosale earns the distinction of becoming the first full-time woman Municipal Secretary in the history of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
The role of Municipal Secretary, pivotal to the functioning of the Municipal Corporation, is filled through internal promotion within the Municipal Secretary Department. The position had been vacant since August 31, 2020, following the retirement of Sunil Parkhi. Subsequently, the additional charge of the post was assigned to Labor Welfare Officer Shivaji Daundkar, who held the position for three years before retiring. Thereafter, Protocol Officer Yogita Bhosale was given temporary charge of the department, where she has been serving since.
The process to permanently fill the vacancy began under then-Commissioner Vikram Kumar in January 2021. A total of 29 municipal officers expressed interest in the position, which required a law degree as one of the primary qualifications. Despite conducting interviews, none of the candidates met the eligibility criteria, leading to the cancellation of the recruitment process. Eventually, the Divisional Promotion Committee of the Municipal Corporation decided to promote Bhosale, recognizing her contribution and leadership during her tenure as in-charge.
Amidst political challenges within the Municipal Secretary’s office, Bhosale has been commended for adhering strictly to rules and regulations.
