Pune, June 17, 2020: The District Deputy Registrar (DDR), Co-operative Societies, has made it clear that a flat owner can allow domestic maids or other workers at his/her house to work and that the housing societies cannot stop them. However, it has to be ensured that the workers are not living in the containment zones.

DDR (Pune district) NV Aghav has written to all the co-operative housing societies that they cannot make own rules but they have to follow the guidelines of the state government. The officer has clarified that the housing societies have to follow the order of Pune district collector issued on June 10 regarding workers and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) order dated June 2, wherein it is mentioned that if the house owner wants domestic maids can go for work, provided they are staying outside the containment zones.

Earlier it was observed that many housing societies made their own rules and prohibited the workers from going to flats for any work.

The DDR has warned that legal action will be taken against the concerned housing society chairman, secretary etc if the orders of the District Collector and PMC are not implemented. “In case of non-compliance or objection by the housing societies or their office bearers then action will be taken against them as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, Indian Epidemic Diseases Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC), as ordered by the District Collector”, the DDR wrote in the letter.
