Pune, 9th July 2022: A couple from Rajgurunagar have been booked for allegedly demanding Rs one crore from officers of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Pune, to withdraw complaints lodged with various authorities.
Based on a complaint from the Pune RTO Ajit Shinde (57), Bundgarden police station has registered an FIR against Sachin Kashinath Gawhane and Sonal Sachin Gawhane. The couple has been booked for offences under sections 385, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 and Information Technology Act.
According to Pune city police officials, the incident took place between 10th May 2021 and 27th June 2022. A truck belonging to accused Sachin Gawhane was sold by his brother Sameer to a man named Vishal Tavre using a forged signature by applying at the office of the Deputy RTO, Pimpri-Chinchwad. An FIR in this regard was registered by the MIDC Bhosari Police Station in 2019. RTO officials are also accused in the case. In order to file chargesheet against the accused, police had submitted a proposal to the Transport Commissioner, Mumbai, seeking sanction but it is still pending.
Meanwhile, accused Sachin Gawhane sent emails and filed complaints with different government offices against the transport officials and employees. The government directed RTO Ajit Shinde to take further action. Gawhane met RTO Shinde and agreed to take back his complaints but allegedly demanded Rs one crore to close this matter. Then, he brought down the amount to Rs 85 lakh but RTO Shinde refused to pay any amount.
On 1st June 2022, Gawhane sent insulting emails to RTO Shinde and other government offices using obscene and defamatory language including against the constitution also.
After the FIR was registered, police arrested Gawhane.
