Pimpri Chinchwad, 11th March 2021: An alert police constable of Nigdi police station under Pimpri Chinchwad Police commissionerate outsmarted an ‘officer’ of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) who didn’t want to pay a fine of Rs 500 for not wearing a mask. Now the ‘officer’ is cooling heels behind bars for impersonating a public servant.

The arrested person has been identified as Pratik Sunil Bhavsar, a student from Vishalnagar, Wakad. An FIR has been registered against him at Nigdi police station.

According to police, the incident took place around 8.30 pm on Wednesday (March 10) at Akurdi railway station chowk. Nigdi police staff were checking people for not wearing a mask. Policeman Sopan Bodhwad caught Bhavsar who was riding a Honda CBR R bike without a mask and asked him to pay a fine of Rs 500.

“Bhavsar told the policeman to let him go as he is an officer of the IB, New Delhi and showed him his identity card on phone. When the constable asked to see his real identity card, Bhavsar said that he was not supposed to show his identity card. The policeman asked him to verify credential by calling his office. To this, Bhavsar said as he was on leave so he cannot call his office else action will be taken against him”, a police officer told Punekar News.

Policeman Bodhwad suspected the behaviour of Bhavsar and informed his senior police inspector who checked with the IB office only to find that Bhavsar was not their officer as he had claimed. Soon Detection Branch (DB) sleuths reached the spot and took Bhavsar in custody.

During the investigation, police seized a bogus identity card from Bhavsar’s possession. He pretended to be an Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO) Grade-II.

Now he has been charged for offences under sections 170 (impersonating a public servant), 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating) and 471 (using forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A judicial magistrate court has remanded him to one-day police custody for investigation.
