Zomato Introduces Long-Distance Delivery Fee: New Policy Sparks Restaurant Outrage and Customer Concern

New Delhi, 22nd May 2025: Zomato has rolled out a new long-distance delivery fee, adding extra charges for orders traveling beyond 4 kilometers, a move that’s drawing sharp criticism from restaurant partners and raising questions among customers.
Starting immediately, Zomato will charge a “long distance service fee” for deliveries over 4 kilometers. Orders between 4 and 6 kilometers will incur an additional Rs 15 fee for orders above Rs 150, while deliveries beyond 6 kilometers face extra charges ranging from Rs 25 to Rs 35, regardless of order value.
Zomato states the total service fee, including this new charge, will not exceed 30% of the order value (excluding other costs). However, restaurant owners warn their overall commission could climb as high as 45%, sparking frustration and discussions of possible protests. The National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI) has raised concerns and plans talks with Zomato this week.
The company says the change is aimed at improving customer experience, citing declining satisfaction on longer deliveries. This update follows recent shifts in Zomato’s delivery and ratings policies, as the platform refocuses on efficiency and service quality in its core food delivery business.
