Span Pumps forays in rooftop power solar generation
Pune, April 4: Span Pumps Private Limited, a leading manufacturer of manually and solar operated water pumps has now forayed in the rooftop solar power generation segment. This new venture shall function under a separate identity titled as ‘Kalpa Power’. This was announced by Rounak Muthiyan, Director, Span Pumps Private limited during a Press Conference held in the city today. Nitin Muthiyan, Founder Director and Rajendra Nahar, General Manager, Business Development of Kalpa Power were also present on the occasion.
While announcing company’s foray in the rooftop solar segment Rounak Muthiyan said, “We have been in the business of solar pumps for a while and getting into this new segment is a natural step of diversification for us. Till date we have supplied more than 6000 solar pumps, which is equivalent to about 5 MW of solar energy. This has helped us to acquire the necessary domain knowledge and thus have a complete ecosystem to run this business”.
“For this new business, our initial target is the state of Maharashtra and NCR. We feel that there is good potential for rooftop solar power generation segment in these areas for commercial and industrial set-ups, since the power cost is high and the supply is also not very consistent”, he added.
“Kalpa Power will provide complete design optimization and implementation support for the ground mounted and rooftop solar power generation. Our strength is our expertise in design optimization, quality and fast and efficient implementation of the system with the usage of our unique light weight structures”, said Rajendra Nahar.
“In addition to providing the best of ground mounted and rooftop solar power generation plants we have a tie-up with large pool of investors, who have an appetite for about 150 MW of solar power generation plants, which roughly translates into the value of about 900 Cr. These investors invest in the solar power plants for medium and large commercial and industrial units; sell the power to those units at a cheaper rate as compared to the MSEDCL and get tax benefits on the earnings”, he added.
Kalpa Power’s parent company, Span Pumps has an in-house DSIR (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research) recognized R&D facility with a highly qualified team. It uses specialized tailor made software for the rooftop segment so that peculiar concerns of the industry can be taken into account. An advanced GIS based modelling for solar generation forecast, impact of shadows of rooftops; wind load analysis for structures is used by Kalpa Power.
In addition, the projects team at Kalpa Power being EHS (environmental health and safety) complaint for all the installation takes care of mechanical, structural and electrical aspects of the solar power system, while maintaining utmost safety.
Kalpa has developed proprietary solutions for automated cleaning of solar power plants as well as remote monitoring systems from its control centre to manage and monitor all on-field assets to minimize breakdown times and maximize performance. It has tie-ups with several domestic and international manufacturers for delivering cutting edge products to the Indian market.
Kalpa Power currently has a confirmed order book of over 1MW capacity and is targeting a total of 8MW in the financial year 2016-17. The parent company has made an initial investment of about 6.5Cr in Kalpa Power.
