FIR against Kabir Kala Manch members for ‘provocative’ songs at Elgaar Parishad

Pune – The Vishrambag police station under Pune city police, have booked six persons mostly members of the Kabir Kala Manch group for allegedly singing ‘provocative’ songs at Elgaar Parishad at Shaniwarwada on December 31.

As per the FIR, the provocative songs incited people resulting in violence during celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Koregaon Bhima battle on January 1. One person was killed, several others got injured besides damages to over 250 vehicles.

 Businessman Tushar Ramesh Damgude (37) of Katraj lodged the complaint on Monday at Vishrambag police station, under whose jurisdiction Shaniwarwada is located. The case has been registered against Kabir Kala Manch’s Sudhir Dhawle, Deepak Dengale, Jyoti Jagtap, Harshali Potdar, Ramesh Gaychor,  Sagar Gorkhe and others. 

They have been booked for offences under sections 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) and 117 (Abetting commission of offence by the public), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint mentions several songs which the accused persons had sung at the venue.

Earlier police had booked Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and student leader Umar Khalid, who had given speeches at Elgaar Parishad, on similar charges.
