111 Pakistani Nationals in Pune; Most on Long-Term Visas, Says Police

Pune, 25th April 2025: A total of 111 Pakistani citizens are currently residing in Pune, with the majority staying in India on long-term visas, according to the Foreigners’ Registration Office (FRO) under Pune Police. Of these, 91 individuals have been granted five-year long-term visas, while 20 are on short-term visitor visas valid for 90 days.
Officials confirmed that three Pakistani nationals have recently departed for their home country. These individuals are typically in India either for medical treatment or to visit relatives, police officials said.
The update comes amid heightened scrutiny following a deadly terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people.
Explaining the protocol, a senior official from the FRO said, “Foreign nationals are required to register with the nearest Police Commissionerate or Superintendent of Police office upon arrival. If they move to another city during their stay, they must inform local authorities there as well.”
The FRO officer added that police conduct periodic checks to confirm that foreign nationals are staying at the address they provided and that their activities align with the stated purpose of their visit.
Out of the 111 Pakistani citizens in Pune, 35 are men and 56 are women staying on long-term visas. The remaining 20 are on short-term visitor permits, the official added.
