123 New CNG Buses Withdrawn From Pune PMPML Fleet Due To Technical Faults

Pune, 18th April 2025: Just a month after their induction, 123 newly procured CNG buses in the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) fleet have been pulled from service due to recurring technical issues. The decision was made after several complaints surfaced regarding their performance and seating capacity, prompting the PMPML administration to return all affected vehicles to the manufacturer for rectification.
These buses, introduced as part of PMPML’s effort to phase out aging vehicles and modernize its fleet, were marketed as technologically advanced and commuter-friendly. However, many of them abruptly stalled mid-route, causing inconvenience and delays for passengers. In response to repeated breakdowns and growing dissatisfaction, PMPML temporarily suspended operations of all 123 buses.
The vehicles had been operating from depots in Hadapsar, Natawadi, Shewalewadi, and other areas, but have been off the roads for the past four to five days. PMPML officials held discussions with the supplying company’s technical team to identify and address the underlying issues.
PMPML had also deployed smaller “midi” buses to better navigate the city’s congested routes and narrow streets. These midi buses were purchased from the same company and have also reportedly experienced frequent mechanical failures, according to PMPML sources.
The administration has confirmed that only after the technical glitches are resolved will the buses be reinstated into active service on city routes.
