Somwar Peth, 28th September 2021: A total of 150 CCTV cameras and its well-equipped control room has been set up from the development funds of Ganesh Bidkar, Leader of House in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The control room is connected to the main control room of the police department.

Pune Cantonment constituency MLA Sunil Kamble, Bidkar, Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, ACP Satish Govekar, Senior Police Inspector Vishnu Tamhane and other senior police officials were present during the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Police Commissioner Gupta said that there are already over 1,000 cameras installed by the state home department in Pune city and 1,400 more such cameras will be installed. A paucity of funds crunch is a problem in running projects for people’s security. However, the projects could be implemented smoothly, if the PMC extends a helping hand. Pune police have submitted a proposal for e-vehicles to the PMC and it would soon be implemented, he hoped.

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar said that PMC will co-operate with the police to maintain law and order in the city.

MLA Kamble also assured to provide Rs one crore to install CCTV cameras in the Cantonment area. He also assured to follow up with the public works department (PWD) for providing better facilities in police colonies.

Bidkar said that he made the arrangements after police officials told him about the importance of cameras in public places. The cameras have been installed at hospitals, bus stops, Ganesh mandals and ATMs. The cameras will cover 24 chowks.
