Lohgaon, 10th November 2024: A 20-month-old girl was severely injured in a stray dog attack in Pune’s Lohgaon area. The child, identified as Arohi Pankaj Yadav, was bitten on her hands, legs, back, and face. She is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Hadapsar.

The incident occurred while Arohi was playing in an open space in front of her house when a group of stray dogs suddenly appeared. Despite her attempts to fend them off, one dog lunged at her. As she tried to retreat, another dog attacked her from the front, while two more approached from behind. All three dogs attacked her simultaneously. Arohi’s screams alerted her parents, who rushed out of the house and managed to chase the dogs away.

Local resident Ashish Nimbalkar explained that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) often relocates stray dogs from urban areas to the nearby premises of the Maharashtra Forest Department. This has led to a high concentration of stray dogs in the area, creating a persistent safety concern for residents, as the site is close to an urban settlement.

Nimbalkar urged the PMC to take immediate and permanent measures to address the stray dog issue.
