215 NDA Cadets Awarded Degree From JNU, Passing Out Parade On May 29

Pune, 28th May 2021: The Convocation ceremony of the 140th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) was held today. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Lt Gen (Dr) DB Shekatkar (Retd), Chancellor Sikkim University.
215 Cadets were conferred the degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, which included 48 Cadets in Science Stream, 93 in the computer science stream and 74 in the Arts stream. 18 Cadets from friendly foreign countries were also awarded degrees during the programme. In addition, the B.Tech stream comprising of 44 Naval Cadets and 52 Air force Cadets also received a ‘three years course completion’ certificate. These Naval and Air Force cadets will be conferred with the degree after completion of one-year training at their respective service academies at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala and Air Force Academy, Hyderabad, respectively.
The academic report of Spring Term – 21 was presented by the Dr OP Shulka, Principal NDA.
The Chief Guest in his convocation address congratulated the cadets of the passing out course for successful completion of their grueling training from one of the toughest training academies in the world. He congratulated and conveyed his sincere gratitude to all the parents who motivated their wards to join this prestigious ‘Tri Services’ training institute of the Indian Armed Forces; a military which is one of the most combat oriented armed forces in the world. He advised all the passing out cadets that as a military officer one would need to demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities and gentlemanly behaviour whilst managing men and equipment in the 21st century. He further said that a military officer should demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities like determination, enthusiasm, courage and gentlemanly behavior.
Cadet R Saini stood first in the Science Stream with an FGPA of 8.35 and was awarded the Commandant’s Silver Medal and the COAS rolling trophy presented by General K Sunderji, PVSM (Retd).
Cadet J Tamrakar stood first in the Computer Science stream with an FGPA of 8.39 and was awarded the Commandant’s Silver Medal and the Admiral’s rolling Trophy presented by Admiral Sureesh Mehta, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of Naval Staff.
Cadet V Kumar stood first in the Social Science Stream with an FGPA of 7.68 and was awarded the Commandant’s Silver Medal as well as CAS Trophy presented by Air Chief Marshal NC Suri, PVSM, AVSM, VM (Retd).
Cadet V Upadhyay stood first in the B.Tech stream in the six-semester training at NDA with CGPA of 8.20 and was presented the Commandant’s Silver Medal and CISC Trophy, presented by HQ IDS.
