30 students from Mahindra United World College of India Create International Cheering Zone at Pune Grand Tour
Pune, 20th January 2026: A group of 30 international students from The Mahindra United World College of India (MUWCI) gathered today at Karmuli Phata to cheer on the cyclists participating in the Pune Grand Tour, representing over 35 countries.
MUWCI students reached the spot at around 1:30 pm with their country’s flag and formed a cheering zone by the road, to encourage the cyclists as they passed through. As these students also hail from various countries across the globe, their presence at the race reflected their intention of standing in solidarity with the participants and making a statement on the significance of international cooperation and friendship, aligning with the broader mission of the United World Colleges (UWC) movement.
“Our students come from across the world to live and learn together here in India,” said Gaurav Chopra, Head of College at The Mahindra United World College of India. “Being part of the Pune Grand Tour allows our community to connect locally while celebrating global unity and sporting spirit.”
The initiative also spotlights MUWCI’s unique educational programme. The college offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to a deliberately diverse student body, with over 70 percent of students receiving scholarships, ensuring access based on merit and potential rather than financial means.
MUWCI hopes the visibility will encourage families in Pune and across India to explore the United World Colleges movement, which believes in education as a force to unite people, nations, and cultures.
