32nd PSPB Inter Unit Chess Tournament: R Praggnanandhaa leading after round 7

Pune, March 11: Young chess prodigy and Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa (ELO: 2587) of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) was leading with six points after seven rounds in the individual championship of the 32nd Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Inter-Unit Chess Tournament, which is being played at PYC Gymkhana, on Saturday.

The individual championship was inaugurated in the presence of Inspector General of Police, Kolhapur Sunil Phulari on Saturday. A total of 74 players are in the fray. A total of 9 rounds are to be played, out of which seven rounds were completed on Saturday.

After the seventh round, Grandmaster Murali Karthikeyan (IOC) (ELO: 2523), Grandmaster Mitrabha Guha (ELO: 2401) of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Grandmaster G N Gopal (ELO: 2489) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Grandmaster B Adhiban (ELO: 2522) (IOC) are trailing the leader with 5.5 points each and are on the joint second position.

In the seventh round, Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa drew with Grandmaster Murali Karthikeyan, Grandmaster Mitrabha Guha drew with Grandmaster GN Gopal, while Grandmaster B Adhiban prevailed over Grandmaster Vidit Gujarathi of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.

Top 10 placings after round 7: GM R Praggnanandhaa (6 points), GM Murali Karthikeyan (5.5 points), GM Mitrabha Guha (5.5 points), GM GN Gopal (5.5 points), GM B Adhiban (5.5 points), GM Vaibhav Suri (5 points), GM Abhijeet Gupta (5 points), IM Padmini Rout (5 points), GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly (5 points) and GM Raunak Sadhwani (5 points).
