35,000 persons rescued by Army from floods

Pune, August 12, 2019 : Villagers of Shirgur in Raibag dist Belgavi, Karnataka, celebrated Eid today with Army soldiers (Maratha Light Infantry) who conducted more than rescue operations on August 10 and 12. Soldiers and villagers had sewaiyan khir and biryani together at the masjid. Villagers thanked Army for relentless rescue operations conducted.

As on date more than 3000 army personnel have been deployed for flood relief and rescue operations in 15 districts of the four affected states.

A total of approximately 35,000 persons have been rescued /evacuated in the four states.

A total of 21 Relief Teams which were providing assistance to the flood affected persons of Kohlapur and Sangli in Maharashtra are being de-requistioned as the situation is coming back to normal.

48 Relief Teams continue to provide flood relief in Karnataka as situation is steadily improving.

In the state of Kerala, 34 Relief Teams have been employed for flood relief in Allepy, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kozhikodu districts.
