Pune, 7th December 2022: 5,000 biogas plants will be set up in Maharashtra under the new National Biogas and Organic Manure Management Programme. The implementation of this scheme will be done through the Zilla Parishad. Kolhapur, Pune, and Ahmednagar districts have been given maximum targets.

The New and Renewable Energy Ministry of the Union Government has planned to set up biogas plants across the country to promote environment-friendly energy generation and organic fertilizer for agriculture. Accordingly, 5,200 plants will be set up in Maharashtra. 505 plants will be set in Pune. The letter in this regard has been sent by the Ministry of Rural Development of the State to the Chief Executive Officers of all the districts.

The central government has a policy to encourage biogas plants to have toilets attached. Accordingly, 2,500 toilets will be connected to biogas in the state. The central government has increased the subsidy. Beneficiaries will get subsidies ranging from 10 thousand to 70 thousand rupees per plant as per criteria.

The central government has started this scheme to avoid damage to the environment, reduce the use of conventional energy, use non-conventional or new and renewable energy, and boost production. Last year, no targets were set in this regard, but this year the targets have been set and have to be completed by the end of March.

“Citizens will benefit from the Centre’s plan to set up biogas plants. There is no need for LPG gas if there is biogas. Pune Zilla Parishad is focusing on increasing the commercial use of biogas. Planning is underway that the entire village and settlement should start a biogas project, consume as much as it needs and supply the balance to the biogas industries. The slurry from this plant is used as organic fertilizer. Biogas plants are being set up in the district through various schemes,” said Ayush Prasad, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Pune.
