Pune, 7th December 2022: For those who speed on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, a 30-minute counselling session with a visual documentary, a question-and-answer session about traffic, and a cold beverage is planned.

In a new “novel initiative” to combat road rage, the State Regional Transport Office will, instead of fining drivers, escort them “with dignity” to a temporary centre for a carefully crafted session. On 1st December, the initiative went into effect.

The goal of the new programme, according to The Times of India, is to make offenders realise that they could have arrived at their destination 30 minutes earlier if they had not disregarded traffic laws. Violators would read a pledge and sign it online during the session.

Two temporary counselling centres have been established for this purpose at the Talegaon and Khalapur tolls. These will have speakers, TVs, computers, and complete air conditioning.

Senior individuals, people carrying young children, and those rushing because of an emergency will not be subject to this rule.
