65-Year-Old Woman Swept Away In Pune Drain; Search Operation Underway
Pune, 13th June 2025: In a tragic incident, a 65-year-old woman was swept away in a roadside drain near the Bengaluru Highway in Pune. The woman, identified as Shobha Manohar Mahimane, was a resident of Darshan Park, Fursungi.
According to preliminary reports, Mahimane had travelled from Kolhapur to Pune and had alighted on a bridge along the Bengaluru Highway. She was attempting to cross the road to hire an autorickshaw when she lost her balance and fell into a roadside drain. The strong current carried her away before any help could arrive.
Emergency response teams launched a search operation immediately after the incident. During the efforts, one of her slippers was recovered from beneath the bridge, indicating the likely direction of the water flow.
Authorities have now expanded the search area downstream, focusing particularly on nalas near Prayega City and the Sinhagad Fire Station on Sinhagad Road. Fire brigade personnel and local police are continuing the operation amid challenging conditions caused by ongoing rain and water flow.
As of now, the woman remains missing, and search teams are working against time to locate her. Officials have urged the public to remain cautious near open drains and flooded areas, especially during the monsoon season.
Further updates will be provided as the search progresses.
