7381 students from ST category received financial aid for higher education under ‘Swayam’ scheme

Mumbai, 5/9/2019:  Seven thousand 381 students from the ST category are provided financial aid for higher studies in the last four years under Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay ‘Swayam’ Scheme.  The assisted amount is directly transferred to the student’s bank account.

Under this scheme, ST students enrolled in institutes from divisional cities; municipal and district-level institutes are provided financial aid for staying, meal, maintenance, and educational provisions.

The benefits of this scheme are given to the ST students from the educational year 2018-19, enrolled in taluka-level government-approved technical education and vocational education degree courses, enrolled through a centralized admission process but not enrolled in any government hostels.

The annual income of the student’s parents should not exceed Rs. 2.50 lakh to avail the benefit of this scheme. The annual income limit for parents will change according to the Central Government’s conditions for post-matric scholarship income limit changing from time to time. The student must be perusing degree education. The student should not have got free admission in the hostel of Tribal Development, Social Justice Department or related any other institutes. The student should not doing any job or business.  Handicap students from ST and Tribal community will be given preference in this scheme.
