Pune, 12th April 2022: Independent English School Association (IESA) members today said that over 800 schools have shut in Maharashtra due to a lack of funds and the Right To Education (RTE) is becoming a burden.

While addressing a press conference, Om Sharma, State-level treasurer of IESA, said, “Private schools are yet to get around Rs 900 crore RTE reimbursement funds. Many schools are waiting for the amount since 2012 and there are 17 such schools in Pune.”

He added, “The RTE law has been imposed on us without our consent. While giving reimbursement, it is not given according to the RTE Act leading to financial stress on schools.”

Jagruti Dharmadhikari, Advisor of IESA said, “There is nobody to hear the voices of private/self-financed schools. We want a separate minister in the state government to look into our issues and help us. The major source of income is fees but there is always demand to reduce it or give a waiver.”
