Pune: 2 Booked After Worker Dies At Kondhwa Site
Kondhwa, 20th October 2022: The Kondhwa police have filed a complaint against a builder and contractor for alleged negligence that resulted in the death of a construction worker who died after tripping and falling from the third level into a duct.
Around 11.30 on Monday morning, the event took place in Tilekarnagar. The advance postmortem report produced by the Sassoon General Hospital indicated that the victim, Mariappa Vankeri (30), passed away as a result of several wounds.
According to Sub-Inspector Vaibhav Sonawane, ‘’Vankeri lived in Janata Vasahat in Parvati and was originally from Raichur in Karnataka. He slipped and fell into the duct from a height of about 40 feet while performing a centring task on the third floor. Vankeri was seriously hurt. The victim passed away while receiving care at the Sassoon hospital.’’
According to Sonawane, “A site check indicated that the builder and the labour contractor had not implemented safety precautions, such as placing nets to prevent accidents at the construction site.”
Saheb Ramoshi (48), the victim’s cousin, has filed a complaint in accordance with the pertinent Indian Penal Code sections. At least 15 workers have perished and four more have been hurt in similar accidents at active building sites since January of this year. The events have been reported, among other places, in Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Wanowrie, Yerawada, and Mundhwa. These events occurred as a result of builders, contractors, and other parties failing to implement security measures at the sites, such as building safety netting and equipping workers with helmets and jackets to prevent accidents from being recorded, according to a police officer.
When it comes to the Tilekarnagar case, senior inspector Sardar Patil of the Kondhwa police stated, “We register offences against the builders and other parties guilty for causing the death of workers due to negligence promptly after getting information about the incident. To protect the interests of construction workers, the building permission, fire, and safety departments of the civic body, as well as the labour commissionerate, should perform surprise inspections at the construction sites. The frequency of accidents at work sites will decline if this is done.’’
