Prime Minister’s office does not have info on Congress led UPA regime scams
Pune, January 6,2017 – A Right to Information (RTI) query filed by a Pune based activist with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has revealed that the present government does not have any information regarding scams during the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) era.
Prafful Sarda, owner of an event management company & RTI Activist had filed the application with the Prime Minister office (PMO) on 18th Nov 2016 on following issues: 1) List of scams registered & happened during UPA regime. 2) How many Ministers, MLA & MPs were arrested in those scams? 3) What action taken against who has found guilty.
The PMO forwarded RTI query to “Serious Fraud Investigation Office” on 23rd Nov 2016.The revert which is sent by the concerned department is very surprising as government DOES NOT have such information available with them. And with reference point No 2 & 3 the CPIO said that under the RTI Act 2005 their office is not supposed to reply to any query.
“What is more surprising is the fact that entire country is aware that before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, mainstream media of this country exposed so many scams (Coal, 2G, 3G, CWG, Telgi, Bofors, Satyam are name to few) happened during UPA regime and that’s why Modi led NDA got huge majority in 2014 election. But looking at government reply to RTI simply shows that either government does not have any specific information available or they do not want to make it public. If at all they have any information for those scams then why government does not wish to make it public? As an Indian citizen it’s our right to know the complete detail about scams, the amount of money involved and what action has been taken by judiciary & government against corrupt political leaders, corrupt bureaucrats who were found guilty in those scams. Does this mean that politicians & businessmen who had been facing trials under those scams are not guilty as PMO does not have official record for the same”, asked Prafful.
