Pune Police Receive Over 1,100 Mobile Theft-Related Complaints During Ganesh Festival, Special Squad To Probe Cases
Pune 2nd October : The number of mobile theft cases were on rise during the Ganesh festival as thieves were targetting the crowded places to steal mobile phones. Majority of cases were reported from peth areas where renowned Ganesh Mandals of the city set up their pandals and devotees from different parts visit to take blessings of bappa and witness decoration.
According to officials, a total of over 1,100 Mobile theft or missing related complaints have been reported during the ten days of ganesh festival. This was much higher compared to last year as 617 complaints were received during the festival in 2022. The police said that the majority of these cases were reported on the immersion procession route such as Laxmi Road and Tilak Road.
The city police has decided to constitute a dedicated squad to probe these cases and the team will work with cyber cell to trace the cellphones. Hadapsar Police had arrested a gang Involved in stealing mobile phones during the festival and had seized a total of 72 mobile phones from their possession. The policemen were deployed in civil dresses at select spots to nab the mobile thieves during the festival.
