Pune, 22nd November 2024: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has confirmed that the passing criteria for Mathematics and Science in the Class 10 examinations scheduled for February-March 2024 will remain unchanged. The board clarified that any changes to these norms will be announced in advance for future academic years.

Currently, students need to score at least 35 marks to pass in Mathematics and Science. However, under the proposed State Curriculum Plan, designed to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a revision in the passing criteria has been suggested. The proposal recommends that students scoring between 20 and 35 marks in these subjects could still qualify for Class 11 admissions.

Addressing the ongoing discussions, State Board Secretary Devidas Kulal issued a statement confirming that no changes have been implemented for the upcoming examinations. “The existing passing criteria remain applicable for now,” Kulal stated.

State Board President Sharad Gosavi further clarified that the revised criteria are merely proposals included in the State Curriculum Plan. “These provisions have not been finalized. Any potential changes would require government approval and formal decisions before implementation,” Gosavi explained.

The State Council of Education, Research, and Training (SCERT) recently released the final draft of the State Curriculum Plan for Classes 3 to 12, incorporating recommendations from the NEP 2020. This draft, approved by the State Steering Committee, includes significant changes to school education. However, the implementation of these proposals will depend on the decisions of the new government following the assembly elections.

For now, students and educators can proceed with the existing passing criteria for the Class 10 board exams.
