Swargate, 22nd November 2024: The Swargate Bus Stand is set to receive a major security upgrade with the installation of 42 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras. These cameras, equipped with night vision capabilities, will bolster passenger safety and aid law enforcement in crime prevention and investigation.

Currently, the bus stand has 18 functional cameras, which are inadequate for effective surveillance. The new cameras will address these shortcomings. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), in collaboration with the Swargate Police, will conduct a joint survey to determine strategic locations for camera installation. This initiative will help ensure optimal coverage and support investigations.

The installation of CCTV cameras is part of a broader initiative by MSRTC to enhance security at key bus stations across Maharashtra. The entire project is expected to cost ₹120 crore, with approximately ₹10 lakh allocated specifically for Swargate Bus Stand.

Police have faced challenges investigating crimes at the Swargate Bus Stand due to misplaced and outdated cameras, many of which lack night vision functionality. Recognizing this gap, MSRTC has prioritized upgrading the surveillance infrastructure. The joint survey with the police is set to begin in the coming days, with a focus on identifying the most effective spots for camera placement.

MSRTC’s proactive measures aim to provide a safer environment for passengers and improve the efficiency of law enforcement at one of Pune’s busiest transit hubs.
