Pune Municipal Corporation Launches Second Phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
Pune, 19th February 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), aiming to provide affordable housing to city residents. So far, 2,777 people have registered for the scheme, which plans to construct 4,173 homes in Balewadi, Kondhwa, Dhanori, and Wadgaon Khurd areas.
Key points of the PMAY second phase in Pune:
1. The income eligibility criterion has been raised from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh annually, potentially increasing the number of eligible applicants.
2. The PMC plans to build 4,173 houses in four different locations across the city.
3. In the first phase, PMC constructed 2,658 apartments under PMAY in Hadapsar, Kharadi, and Wadgaon Sheri.
4. The previous phase generated revenue of Rs 303 Crore for PMC, with houses priced between Rs 7 to 12 Lakh each.
5. The Maharashtra State Government provided Rs 62.23 Crore out of the allocated 66.45 crore rupees as a subsidy for the first phase.
PMC Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale stated that the increased income limit would allow more citizens to benefit from the scheme. Under this program, beneficiaries receive subsidies of Rs 1.5 Lakh from the Central Government and Rs 2 Lakh from the Maharashtra Government.
The apartments offered in this scheme range from 30 to 45 square meters in size. Interested citizens are required to register on the official website to be considered for the program.
This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to provide housing for all, with both central and state governments making concerted efforts to realize this goal across the country.
