Cyber Fraud Foiled: Pune Police Recover Rs 40.90 Lakh in Stolen Corporate Funds
Pune, 19th March 2025: In a significant success, the Cyber Police Station in Pune has recovered Rs 40.90 Lakh that was fraudulently transferred from a prominent company. The scam involved a cybercriminal impersonating the company’s Managing Director via WhatsApp messages sent from an unknown mobile number. The scammer claimed to be in a meeting and asked for urgent payment to another company’s account. The company’s bank account was targeted, leading to the fraudulent transfer.
The Cyber Police took swift action. They communicated with banks in other states and coordinated with nodal officers to freeze the fraudulent transactions. The efforts resulted in the successful recovery of the stolen funds, which were returned to the complainant.
This achievement was made possible under the guidance of senior officials including Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailash Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW and Cyber) Vivek Masaal, Assistant Commissioner of Police (EOW and Cyber) Machhindra Khade, and Senior Police Inspector Swapnali Shinde.
To avoid such cyber scams, individuals are advised not to transfer money based on messages or calls from unknown numbers claiming to be from a superior or acquaintance without verifying their identity.
